This shows how quick an application of Coppercoat™ can be. Bear in mind that this is a heavily built Cheoy Lee Trawler 46. There appears to be three guys painting, they started painting at 09.30 and had finished the application to the port side by around 15.00.

We were recently contacted by the owner of a Coppercoated™ boat, “Mardi Gras”, that he believed had been treated around 12 years ago, by a previous owner. We happened to remember that his boat was previously owned by the (then) Commodore of Christchurch Sailing Club. The boat was actually treated in 1992, over 20 years ago! We were able to supply the current owner with some pictures of his boat from 1993. And yes, the Coppercoat™ is still working “brilliantly” on Mardi Gras, based in Falmouth.

We haven’t bought any conventional antifoul for twenty years. Our first experience with Coppercoat™ was on a new Hallberg Rassy 352 on which we cruised extensively in the Baltic, Mediterranean, America Nova Scotia and the Caribbean.

During 2011/12 the Danish boating magazine “BadNyt” ran a trial of 11 anti-fouls, including 3 from International, 2 from Hempel, 2 from Jotun and of course, Coppercoat™. Back in March, Steve Blanchard of Poole Sea Safari (www.pooleseasafari.com) had Coppercoat™ applied to his commercial rib. The smooth and non-absorbent epoxy surface gave immediate improvements in hull speed and efficiency, so much so in fact that Steve calculated his fuel saving this year alone will more than recoup the cost of his Coppercoat™ application.

He wrote “…we have seen a massive decrease in the amount of fuel used, I kid you not, even compared to when she was brand new. In our 7 month season, we use around £25,000 of fuel. So far we are averaging about 15% decrease in fuel consumption, which should save me just under £4000 this year.” The question for motorboat owners becomes not “Can I afford Coppercoat™?” but instead, “can I afford not to have Coppercoat™?”!

We have always had a strong following amongst the leisure boating community, with most Coppercoat™ treated boats being between 25 and 45ft in length. But increasingly Coppercoat™ is being used by larger leisure boats and super-yachts. In the last month alone Coppercoat™ has been applied to the 49m motor-yacht “T6” in New Zealand and a 45m catamaran in Abu Dhabi (see attached pictures). Other super-yachts using Coppercoat™ include the 57m yacht “Pan orama” treated in Greece and the 33m motor-yacht “Beothuk” treated in the USA.
