Coppercoat™ Review

We received this email a few days ago, totally unsolicited:

“We put Coppercoat™ on our boat 4 year’s ago.  it is brilliant; each time we lift out all we do is jet wash and it\’s as good as new.  We have received many envious comments from those having to deal with traditional antifouling.  It is probably the best investment we made, saving us lots of time and lots of money too. I can’t rate the product highly enough.  Please feel free to use this in you testimonials section.  Sue & Brian K.”

Coppercoat™ Review after 20 years Westerly in Falmouth.

We were recently contacted by the owner of a Coppercoated™ boat, “Mardi Gras”, that he believed had been treated around 12 years ago, by a previous owner. We happened to remember that his boat was previously owned by the (then) Commodore of Christchurch Sailing Club. The boat was actually treated in 1992, over 20 years ago! We were able to supply the current owner with some pictures of his boat from 1993. And yes, the Coppercoat™ is still working “brilliantly” on Mardi Gras, based in Falmouth.

20 Years of Coppercoat™ Hallberg Rassy 352

A recent email from a happy customer:

“Hi Tim,

We haven’t bought any conventional antifoul for twenty years. Our first experience with Coppercoat™ was on a new Hallberg Rassy 352 on which we cruised extensively in the Baltic, Mediterranean, America Nova Scotia and the Caribbean.

Our second 10 year experience with copper coat is on a 30 year old Duellist 32. English Channel, French canals, Baltic and the Netherlands.

The product has been excellent on both boats and is still in good condition. Phots to follow.

Cheers

John Wilson

PS We are so pleased with the performance of the product that we are willing for you to use our name as a recommendation.”

Coppercoat™ – Wooden Hull Pinky Ketch, Emsworth.

Moored in Emsworth, UK.
Treated early 2011.

“Naida, my hand built Pinky ketch was treated by myself with Coppercoat™ during her build. She was launched 15 months ago and have just dried her on a grid at Emsworth a very quick clean off had her bottom looking like new. So for me the product definitely works and looks great too. This is a moulded wood hull.”

Coppercoat™ Customer Feedback. Westerly Griffin, Town Quay Southampton

Mr L.
Westerly Griffin,
Town Quay, Southampton,
Applied April 2010.

“Best thing I ever did! Wonderful stuff!” (Mr L. called our office to check when he bought his Coppercoat™. Evidently his son couldn’t believe how clean it was and thought the boat had only been in the water one year since treating, not the actual two.)

“I treated the boat myself but could not treat the lifting keel at the time. The keel is out for repair so I am going to treat it now. Coppercoat™ is simply magnificent!”

Coppercoat™ Forum Feedback – The Mediterranean

Forum Contributor “Rivonia” YBW Forum:

“Difficult to believe, BUT we have been in this marina TRNC for a year (due to unforseen circumstances) and our Coppercoat™ which is three years old is working great. I snorkel down and with a big wallpaper scraper all the slime just comes off. Thank you coppercoat.

Hot HOT here in the eastern Med. We set off sailing (thank God) next week.”

Coppercoat™ Forum Feedback – Orkney

Forum Contributor “srm” YBW Forum:

“Purchased my current boat in Jan 2009, ashore in Plymouth. 14 years old, had been ashore every winter and for the previous two years. June 2009 had old antifoul removed by soda blasting, then sanded off remains of original epoxy. Tented the hull with tarpaulins and applied three coats of high build epoxy by roller (slight orange skin finish) then Coppercoat™ as per instructions.

Since then I ebb out and pressure wash at end of season (Sept or Oct) and again at start of season. Mostly slime that on one occasion was washed off with a hose and wipe down with stainless steel pan scrubber as no pressure washer available. We do get some green weed around waterline where the sun catches it as the water is generally very clear. Winter growth is probably due to brackish water and agricultural run off into the bay. Did get a few small barnacles last year after cruising east Denmark, but they came off with the pressure washer and the water in the Belts has a low salt content.

Coppercoat™ works well for me, despite my amateur application, and was worth the initial cost and effort to apply it. I do not have to pay for lift outs, simply dry against the harbour wall on a concrete pad, connect up to water and electricity, and put £1 in the meter. Also, the weather is unpredictable for repainting in the spring but I don’t even notice the rain while dressed for the pressure washer. All I do is wash off and rub down with stainless pan scrubber between tides. No paint, no mess, just wash off my old PVC oilskins afterwards.

Previous boat was a catamaran with another, far less effective, brand of copper epoxy. With her I just parked on a beach and scrubbed the hull with the stainless pan scourers as the tide went down, but that was necessary every 3 or 4 months. Perhaps some of the Coppercoat™ horror stories should be attributed to other brands?? I also suspect that the amount or lack of use, and water the boat spends most time in will effect the results.”

Coppercoat™ Forum Feedback – The Mediterranean

Forum Contributor “Marsupial” YBW Forum:

“After nine years our Coppercoat™ is working better now than it did eight years ago, it seems to be improving with age. BUT every year the bottom is scraped with a wall paper scraper (the boat remains afloat) and nothing much comes off except some slime and fine weed around the waterline, the prop-shaft and prop are often fouled up so IF someone can find a product that works as well as Coppercoat™ on props I can put my diving gear away. The boat is in the Med. “
